Ten on Tuesday (21)

March 9, 2010 at 8:00 am 16 comments

So here’s the thing. Monday nights I go to Bible Study at my church. We got out a bit late last night. Then I was instructed to stop at my parents’ house to pick some leftover casserole for my lunch today. And, well, I don’t pass up free food. When I got there we had to stare at the pictures of my little baby and then I had to tell them, in detail, about my doctor’s appointment incident and why I cried. Then I came home and my husband needed to show me the new doorknob he installed on our garage (we live thrilling lives, let me just tell you), and then I needed to stare at my little baby for a few more minutes before bedtime.

All of that to say that I didn’t even participate in my own weekly feature. I know, I know. I should be kicked out of blogland. But YOU should participate. Here are the questions again. Mr Linky is posted below.

This week’s questions were provided my my hubby. The father of the child growing inside me. I’m excited to read your answers. Stephen has been known to visit random blogs that I read so he may even make an appearance on yours.

1. Of your current hobbies, which would you choose to spend more time, money, and effort on? Why?
2. List the two other hobbies/habitual activies (not chores) besides the one listed above that you regularly do now and didn’t choose in question one.
3. Why are you spending time on the above two hobbies/habitual activies at all if you really wanted to spend your time on the first one you chose?  …or to put it another way, what are these two hobbies/habitual activities fullfilling that the first one doesn’t if you don’t want to put all your effort into the first hobby?
4. Ready John 3:16 in the bible… In what way does this passage affect you?  What are your feelings towards these words, positively or negatively?
5. M&M’s: nuts, no nuts, or peanut butter?
6. Putting away the feeling of pride being a bad thing; what secretly/openly are you proud about yourself?
7. Given one room in the house to do with what you want, not changing the actual size of the room and with all the money you would need, what would you do, and be specific?  (this can range from bouncy floor, walls & ceilings; to hard wood floor with wood paneling and purple ceiling with a chair; to nothing)
8. What’s the next movie you’re going to see?  Not what you’d LIKE to GO see, but the next movie you realistically are going to watch.
9. Use the keyboard only and make your best smiley/funny/cool face –> like this! 8^)
10. What makes you cry? What makes you pray? What makes you laugh?

We won’t kick you out of blogland, Chelsea! Hope you’re back next time though.

    1. Sewing, because I love it and have a new granddaughter (in June) to make things for.

    2. Photography and my blog!

    3. Well I don’t have the photography equipment I would like, but my sewing machine will do what I ask it to. And I spend way too much time on my blog because I love to journal. Did that answer the question?

    4. God loves us so much. When you have a child you understand better the sacrifice God makes when he gives His sinless Son for our sin. He did it so I could spend eternity with Him!

    5. M&M’s: All of them! There’s chocolate and that’s all that matters.

    6. That I homeschooled two children through to high school (with the exception of 12th grade for my second). But pride comes before the fall and I’m struggling with my youngest in second grade right now. Pray for me!

    7. Ooh. My kitchen. Hands down. It would have new tile floors, tile backsplash, granite countertops (or something like that), new cabinets, new appliances, curtains, you name it.

    8. I don’t even know what’s at the theater right now. At home? Pride and Prejudice or Les Miserables.

    9. =0)

    10. Sad movies. Difficult situations and beautiful blessings. My daddy, my hubby and my kids.

    1. I would love to be able to spend more time on my photography.
    2. Reading and drawing.
    3. Well, I have a ton of books (plus a library card) which makes it very easy to pursue that particular hobby. I also doing a LOT of drawing for work, and then dabble in it on the weekends and stuff. I do have a good camera and I take a lot of pictures… I just don’t have the money or the time right now to go take some formal classes and really get out there and take ‘artsy’ pictures!
    4. God made the ultimate sacrifice and gave us the life of His only son, simply so that we would all be saved. Pretty amazing, if you ask me.
    5. I’m a fan of the plain old original ones. I do like the dark chocolate ones from time to time!
    6. That I’m a really good artist and I can share that ability with my friends and family (ahem, Stephen and Chelsea… baby name art once you pick a name!) 🙂
    7. I would recarpet our master bedroom and closet and get a bedframe, curtains, paintings, and other accessories to make it look/feel like a tropical hotel. And get a new flatscreen TV, too!
    8. Either Alice in Wonderland or Clash of the Titans for my birthday.
    9. 😛
    10. My son Luke, to all of them!

    Thanks for hosting, Chelsea!

Hahahaha, all I have to say is I THOUGHT these questions sounded like they were made by a man.

    Very factual and to-the-point. Hilarious!

  • 5. Angela  |  March 9, 2010 at 11:06 am

Now that I know where these questions came from, they make so much more sense!

  • 6. deiala  |  March 9, 2010 at 11:12 am

These were really good questions… Added my link in Mr. Linky…
    Have a nice day…

Hi. I found you through Laurenfromtexas and love how your blog is about the “roots and rings” in life! What a beautiful story. So I know you don’t know me but your 10 on Tuesday looks fun and maybe this will help. 🙂

    1. Reading, I would buy more books and read ALL the time if I could. I love learning, I love hearing about other people’s experiences, I love a different perspective on the things I think about and you can get all of that from reading I think.
    2. Running/working out and guitar
    3. Running/working out is an emotional release for me. Exerting myself physically keeps me from blowing up and freaking out on other people less often than if I didn’t. Guitar is more of an admiration hobby. I love music and admire people who can make it, so I attempt guitar with the dream that one day I can make music too. It is a thing of beauty and who doesn’t want to strive to have or obtain a piece of beauty?
    4. Positively it was the verse that brought me to believe God has love for me; Negatively it caused me to question God’s character and if I wanted a God like that to love me. I know God is Holy and will not be in the presence of sin b/c of His holiness and that the death of his son was the only way he could still be a just God and be in relationship with us, but God sending His son to die feels cruel. I know it was for us, but that doesn’t make it better. It feels wrong that that was the way God chose to do it. It doesn’t seem fair or right to His son whom he claimed to have a great love for. Have no worries, I am not confessing to a current faith crisis. These are thoughts in which I have come to a resolve but I felt the need to share the negative with the positive, the roots with the rings 😉
    5. PEANUT BUTTER
    6. That I actually lost the freshman 15 after graduating from school!!
    7. I would re-do our kitchen. First I would lower the counter tops and exchange the laminate for marble with enough of an overhang for leg space for bar stools. I would lower the cabinets so that my roomies and I could actually reach into them without a step stool (seriously you can tell a man built this kitchen by how high and how tall everything is!) A new sink to replace the one that is rusting out and a light fixture above our sink so we can see the dishes we are trying to wash. Also a new light fixture for the kitchen area b/c that massive 70’s looking disco bulb drives me nuts! New flooring b/c the checkerboard stuff is gross. Lastly I would add more electrical sockets. I am tired of having to ghetto rig extension cords and powerstrips to use kitchen appliances, not to mention it is probably not very safe. Can you tell I’ve thought about this before?
    8. Realistically probably going to watch the Hurt Locker. It is next in line on our Netflix que.
    9. ‘/:-) (Man with a hat that has a tassel…not too terribly creative I know but I don’t do a ton of keyboard faces).
    10. Cry: That time of month, when I feel I have or will fail or hurt others, weddings, funerals /deaths, after witnessing or hearing stories of life change, when someone sings a solo in which I sense raw vulnerability on their part, after talking to immediate family on the phone (they all live far away and talking to them makes me realize how much they have changed and how much I don’t know them anymore).
Pray: When planning, suffering, thankful, mournful, worried, when I’m asked to.
Laugh: Reminder of past/old inside jokes that I never expected to resurface, some http://www.mylifeisaverage.com posts, some blogs that I read, stories about children and their explanations of life like “kids say the darndest things” type stuff. When I’m uncomfortable or embarrassed.

Thanks for letting me leave my small mark in the online world; it’s nice to meet you! 🙂

  • 8. Brandi  |  March 9, 2010 at 12:12 pm

It’s ok…you’ve got lots to keep you busy 🙂

  • 9. Tabaitha Kaye  |  March 9, 2010 at 12:48 pm

    Good questions Stephen!

  • 10. hyperactivelu  |  March 9, 2010 at 3:27 pm

    Good questions!

  • 11. Nora  |  March 9, 2010 at 3:43 pm

What makes me cry? When my feelings get hurt, when i see something sad or sappy on tv or in real life, when I feel lonely. Oh, and weddings! I cry at weddings every single time.

What makes me pray? When I need strength to get through a tough situation, when I want to thank God for something he did or helped me with, and for other people’s health, sanity and well being.

What makes me laugh? My dog, Jack cause he’s really funny, my blog friends for being fantastic and knowing what to say, my parents as they are quite hilarious as well as Russell Brand, Edide Izzard and Mitch Hedberg, the only three comedians that make me laugh out loud.

Hiya, I’ve been doing your Ten on Tuesday on and off for a few weeks now – I first read about it on Lisa’s blog (lisayarns). Just wanted to say hi and thanks for the questions!

  • 13. Debbie  |  March 9, 2010 at 4:20 pm

Great job, Stephen! now, I want to eat M&ms.

  • 14. mom (nana)  |  March 9, 2010 at 4:36 pm

WHy didn’t Stephen answer his questions??????

    1. Of your current hobbies, which would you choose to spend more time, money, and effort on? Why? I love to read and I don’t spend enough time doing it. Wait until night time and then fall asleep….

    2. List the two other hobbies/habitual activies (not chores) besides the one listed above that you regularly do now and didn’t choose in question one. Man you make me feel bad – don’t have any hobbies….I need to get a life!

    3. Why are you spending time on the above two hobbies/habitual activies at all if you really wanted to spend your time on the first one you chose? …or to put it another way, what are these two hobbies/habitual activities fullfilling that the first one doesn’t if you don’t want to put all your effort into the first hobby? You are wierd!

    4. Ready John 3:16 in the bible… In what way does this passage affect you? What are your feelings towards these words, positively or negatively? I loved Julie’s answer. She nailed it. I am so unbelievably thankful for the life God has given me through His Son but I sometimes have a hard time resolving the “Why would He do it” issue…

    5. M&M’s: nuts, no nuts, or peanut butter? DEFINITELY PEANUT and most DEFINITELY DARK CHOCOLATE!!!!

    6. Putting away the feeling of pride being a bad thing; what secretly/openly are you proud about yourself? That I have a good marriage and great kids! (yeah, I KNOW I don’t have anything to do with this but STILL…)

    7. Given one room in the house to do with what you want, not changing the actual size of the room and with all the money you would need, what would you do, and be specific? (this can range from bouncy floor, walls & ceilings; to hard wood floor with wood paneling and purple ceiling with a chair; to nothing) For sure our master bathroom. I would take out the step and make it one level. I would take out ALL the tiny tile and redo with something really nice. Redo the shower with a stool to sit on so I can shave! I would take out the skylight – it is so DANG HOT in there 5 months out of the year. Of course, new lighting, new vanity – preferably something free standing. and and and….

    8. What’s the next movie you’re going to see? Not what you’d LIKE to GO see, but the next movie you realistically are going to watch. Nothing of course – what’s a “movie”?

    9. Use the keyboard only and make your best smiley/funny/cool face –> like this! 8^) (: – ( a bald headed man frowning

    10. What makes you cry? What makes you pray? What makes you laugh? Cry? Everything…. Pray? Everything….Laugh? you
