Pregnant Pause – Week 24

June 2, 2010 at 8:44 am 20 comments

Good morning sunshines! It’s Wednesday! Don’t you just love having Mondays off?? It makes the rest of the week so quick.

I thought today would be a good day for a pregnancy update… because it’s been SOO long since the last one. Really this just means that I was too busy watching two hours of Wipeout last night to spend any time on my blog so I’m trying to put something together this morning so nobody thinks I have died again.

Jansen and I have entered our 24th week. If I were to write the pregnancy books (and someday I may), I would call this, “The beginning of the SUCK phase.”  I have not had this much trouble getting comfortable the entire pregnancy. I sit and I’m uncomfortable, I stand and I’m uncomfortable. Sleeping is pretty frustrating. If I can fall asleep, I’m usually good for only one or two wake-ups in the middle of the night. It has just been torture trying to get comfortable enough to fall asleep. Two nights ago I laid in bed tossing and turning and eventually started moaning and kicking. “I’m hot and uncomfortable!” I fussed. Stephen got up, turned on the hall light and assembled a floor fan for me. Gotta love that man!

Last night I wasn’t hot but just uncomfortable. I am a back sleeper, it’s the only way I am truly comfortable. But since “they” say that sleeping on your back while pregnant is not safe, I’m trying to learn other ways. Remember the pillow? Well I’m doing okay with it some days but sometimes I just can’t figure out what to do with my arms. If I lay on my left side, my left arm falls asleep. How do you people do it?? And then on top of that, when I’m on my side my belly is so heavy that it pulls. I now have to tuck part of my pillow under my bump to give it support. Pregnancy is rough business!

I had a doctor’s appointment last Thursday. I braced myself for another 9 pound gain but found out I’d only gained 6 pounds last month. So now I’m up to 21 pounds. I hear that’s pretty normal at this point. (Thank God because there is nothing I can do about it. I don’t plan to cut back on my food intake! This boy has a healthy appetite!)

I’m checking things off my mental list which makes me a happy camper. Crib, dresser, and glider have all been purchased. I ordered my bedding last night (and sweat through the entire process). Once I get a swatch of fabric in the mail, I’ll start looking at paint colors. We are registering this weekend. We will definitely be registering at Babies R Us, but we are deciding between Target and Burlington Coat Factory for the other. Is Burlington an easily accessible store? We have 2 by us but that may not be representative of the rest of the country. (Not that the rest of the country is buying me gifts… so really I guess it doesn’t matter.) I think Target would be a good choice because I could register for a rug, curtains, a robe, etc. while I’m there. Babies R Us doesn’t carry those items. I’m thinking out loud here but I welcome your thoughts and feelings. I ALWAYS welcome your thoughts and feelings.

Let’s see, what else is there to report? Jansen kicks all the time. He’s getting pretty strong. Sometimes I wonder if he’s dancing in there. (If he is, he takes after his father.)

This is my 24 week belly shot.

Sorry I look like poo. It was the second time we tried to take it and there was about a drop of battery juice left.

I think that’s just about it. Sorry if these pregnancy posts are lame. I just know that I’ll love looking back on them one day. This is sort of one of those instances where my blog is for me, not necessarily for you. If you like it, that’s just an added bonus!

I don’t feel so sunshiny this morning, I hit a squirrel on the way to work and I feel sad, why can’t they live and eat ON THE SAME SIDE OF THE ROAD. 😦

Other than that, I am glad to hear that things are going well for you and Jansen, I enjoy your pregnancy post, and can’t wait for him to get here.

being pregnant myself I LOVE reading other people’s pregnancy posts. They amuse me! As far as the whole back sleeping thing my docotr said that it was all blown out of prportion and mostly a big deal when you are really big and pregnant at the end. I can’t help it, sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night and I am on my back. It is just the most comfortable for me.
Also with my first I registered at Burlington and got NO gifts off my registry there. I felt it was a waste of my time. I always register at Babies R Us and Target.
    You are looking good girl!

awww. you look great chelsea. wishing i had an older sibling that was married and pregnant! my vote would be for target but i’m a target fan. slightly nicer than walmart but oh so college friendly.

You may feel like pooh, but you don’t look like pooh. You’ll adjust to this awkward stage.

My daughter registered at Target and WalMart. Since we are in a small town with nothing except a WalMart that had to do. She goes to college in the big city and registered at Target there. She’s gotten a few things in the mail and some gift cards from those in other states. (All Target purchases.) It’s so nice to be registered online that way anyone can see what you want and purchase for you, have it shipped already wrapped and voila. My how times have changed.

You look fabulous!!! I have no tips on getting comfy at night; night is my dreaded time of the day. But I’m really happy to hear I am not the only one that has minor freak outs about being hot & uncomfortable in the middle of the night… phew! 🙂

Cute picture! Glad you are making your way through your list and having fun. Hot here too, but I’m a default side sleeper so no suggestions, sorry!

With E. registered at Babies-r-us and Target.

    You’re looking great!

I chose Target for my “other” store. Here they have a better selection, and I was able to register for furniture and decor items (that weren’t cutesy “baby” stuff) as well. PLUS, about a month before you’re due, they send you a coupon code for 10% off the remaining things on your registry. We went through and added everything else we wanted to the registry, ordered online, got 10% off and delivery was free. Just something to consider 🙂

I hope you’re able to get more comfortable soon. That has to be awful!! 😦

I’d go with Target. You can never go wrong with Target. Plus, your bloggies can always buy you gifts from there 😉

I love your belly pics! I’m many weeks behind you but having issues sleeping too! I’m normally a side sleeper so i didn’t think I’d have problems, but I wake up with my arms asleep all the time! Is there such thing as poor arm circulation in pregnancy? I also wanted to tell you that one of my girlfriends that is in her last month of pregnancy swears by her belly wedge when she sleeps. She said it just props your belly up so it’s not pulling. I may have to try that when i get to that point!

Can’t wait to see the nursery come together!!!

Off to email you now because I need to know more. T&F baby, T&F.

  • 11. Sarah  |  June 2, 2010 at 2:07 pm

My vote is Target! It’s versatile and if you get too many of something, you can always take it back to trade it up for something- and then if you don’t need anything else, it has grocery store like items too for the babe!

  • 12. Taryn  |  June 2, 2010 at 2:44 pm

I vote Target too. Their store brand diapers are awesome (and wayyy cheaper than pampers!) Same goes for their formula.

  • 13. Taryn  |  June 2, 2010 at 2:47 pm

LOL. “They” say sleeping on your back isn’t good…. that’s b/c it isn’t!! 🙂 The weight of the baby presses on your descending vena cava, meaning your blood can’t circulate; lay on your back for too long, and you will feel like you’re gonna pass out. Trust me… I almost passed out during one of my ultrasounds…. they had to try and do the rest with me laying on my side!

  • 14. Sara  |  June 2, 2010 at 3:53 pm

I would register at Target! Cute baby stuff there and definitely easily accessible. I couldn’t tell you where the closest Burlington is. That’s just me though. You still look great! I sleep on my left side ALL THE TIME. Basically, my arm is bent at a 45 degree-ish angle, hand under the head/pillow, elbow poking out. Don’t know if this helps or not, but it works for me! I cannot, CaNNOT!, sleep on my back.

  • 15. Jennifer  |  June 2, 2010 at 4:45 pm

Get the recliner, sleep in it. I did for the last 5 months of my last pregnancy.

  • 16. Emmie aka MIL  |  June 2, 2010 at 4:54 pm

I vote for Target, it is so easy to return things there. Your nighttime symptoms sound like my nighttime symptoms! Except mine are a result of the beginning stages of menopause!!! At least you are getting a baby at the end of your misery!!!

Aww, reading that Stephen got up an assembled that fan in the middle of the night makes me a proud momma. That is definitely something his dad would do!

Tell little Jansen his Emmie loves him!!!!

Loving the Pregnant Pauses (I even stole the idea this week when you didn’t do a 10 on Tues – I’m 26 weeks tomorrow) and yes, I hear you. I am a tummy sleeper, so I’ve been forced out of my comfort zone for even longer than you have and I am so sick of my belly pulling when I’m laying partially on my side that I sometimes think I may scream. I find myself turning onto my back periodically just so I can truly stretch out a little… but I don’t stay that way very long. I’ve never had the passing out problem, but remember several times where I started to tingle (in a bad way) in my lower extremities if I laid on my back for very long.

On registering… several of my friends did the Burlington thing. They liked it. I am a Target girl, myself. I love everything Target. And you can register for those things you mentioned above plus batteries, diapers, etc. there. If you register at Target, register for batteries. In all sizes (AAA – D) because swings, bouncers, white noise machines, etc. all require these things. And if no one buys them for you (though some will realize that their purchase requires it and will add them to their purchase) you still get that wonderful 10% off what hasn’t been purchased on your registry coupon right around your due date. (You can add things to your registry up until your due date to qualify for this – I love completion programs) Just a thought!

  • 18. Taryn  |  June 3, 2010 at 9:15 am

Totally there with the battery thing!!! We bought a charging unit that will do every size of battery and then bought all types of rechargables. They’re a little expensive upfront, but it will save you a ton of headaches when little Jansen wants to sleep in his bouncy chair but the batteries are dead! 🙂

  • 19. Taryn  |  June 3, 2010 at 9:16 am

Babies R Us also has the registry completion program.. they’ll send you a coupon for 10 or 20% off your total purchase off your registry when you’re closer to your due date.

  • 20. Nora  |  June 3, 2010 at 10:05 am

You don’t look like poo at all! Do let us know where you’ve registered for officially. Some of us may want to send you a present or two =)
