Ten on Tuesday (57)

December 7, 2010 at 7:00 am 23 comments

First of all, thank you for all of your comments, emails and tweets about yesterday’s post. If you happen to be struggling with infertility, let me just reassure you: You are not alone!!! There are many woman currently living daily battles, and many that have been through it and are now on the other side. (And to be clear, I do not consider my measly 10 month struggle to be “infertility.” I have no clue what many of you are going through.)

These questions are from me. If you don’t like them, don’t tell me!

1. What do you order at Starbucks?
It depends. Currently? Peppermint mocha, extra hot.

2. Where is your favorite place to eat breakfast?
I love going out to breakfast. LOVE. Bacon and hashbrowns are my love language. Oh and Migas! Mmmm. I really love breakfast at Cracker Barrel. Their hashbrown casserole business is amazing. But recently my sister took me to this place called The Buffalo Grille in Houston. It was awesome. I want to go back and try their Migas.

3. Are you on Twitter? Why or why not?
Yes I am. (@rootsandrings) I wasn’t for a LONG time but Lauren made me do it. She said that all the cool bloggers do it and I can’t be cool if I don’t. Since I do whatever she tells me to do, I caved. I try to use Twitter for blog related things. I only follow bloggers and a few celebrities. Facebook is for real life friends, Twitter is for my internet friends!

4. What is your favorite Christmas movie?
Hmm, that’s a hard one. I really love Elf. I think it’s hilarious and Will Ferrell is just perfect.

5. Are you a good gift giver?
I like to think so. I never give a gift without thinking A LOT about it. So if you get something from me and you’re like, “What? A pizza stone? I don’t even cook!” chances are you mentioned something to me one time about how you love homemade pizza and wish you could make it. So then really it’s your fault for lying to me.

6. Do you like your handwriting? Bonus points for posting a picture.
I used to hate it but it’s gotten much neater over the past few years. I fill out a lot of paperwork for work… practice makes perfect I guess. I have several different types of writing. Short hand, cursive, and really neat. I tried to take a picture with my phone but the auto-focus was all wacky and it looked weird. I’ll figure it out sometime.

(Updated: Okay, here you go. Not the best pic, but I tried.)

7. Is your signature legible? Bonus points for posting a picture.
I’m a woman so my signature is basically just my name in very clear cursive.

8. Have you ever been to New York during Christmas season?
No. I think I would like to… minus the freezing cold disgusting weather.

9. Are there any items that you are completely brand loyal?
Tide detergent. I changed once to save a few bucks. My skin rebelled for no less than 10 months. CONSTANT ITCHING. I now have to use Tide Free.

10. Who is your favorite public speaker?
Probably Beth Moore. I love her. I also love Louie Giglio. I like speakers who communicate effectively, passionately, and hilariously.

Your time!

10 months of being itchy? I would die!
I think I may have to check out Beth Moore, the name sounds familiar.

  • 2. Southern Gal  |  December 7, 2010 at 8:00 am

    Good questions.

    1. What do you order at Starbucks?
If I could it would be some fabulous holiday drink. Probably a Gingerbread Latte since I don’t like Peppermint much. ( I’m an invalid right now, but I’m sure I could talk someone into taking me to the big city to get one when I’m able.!)

    2. Where is your favorite place to eat breakfast?
Anywhere that I don’t have to cook it! Seriously everything just tastes better when it’s cooked by someone else. Pecan waffles, bacon, grits with cheese are my favorite breakfast items.

    3. Are you on Twitter? Why or why not?
I don’t Twitter. I don’t even have a texting plan on my phone. Blogging takes up so much of my time I don’t feel I could devote anymore time to something like that. I don’t even Facebook!

    4. What is your favorite Christmas movie?
Elf, It’s a Wonderful Life, White Christmas. A Christmas Story, Home Alone, The Christmas Story all have to be watched before it feels like Christmas around here.

    5. Are you a good gift giver?
I try to be. You’d have to ask my family and friends if I am or not.

    6. Do you like your handwriting?
I’ve learned over the years that the writing instrument has a great deal to do with how my handwriting turns out. So if I have a great pen, yes, I like my handwriting.

    7. Is your signature legible?
    Very much so.

    8. Have you ever been to New York during Christmas season?
I’ve never been to NY at any time. I would love to go and see every Broadway musical there!

    9. Are there any items that you are completely brand loyal?
Don’t get me started. Gain, LeSeur Peas, Niblets Corn, Dukes Mayonnaise, etc. (I wrote a whole blog post once about this. I’ve inherited my love for certain brands from my Daddy who used to take us grocery shopping with him every week. Except he won’t touch Duke’s Mayonnaise with a 10-foot-pole. It’s got to be Hellman’s. My husband converted me to Duke’s.)

    10. Who is your favorite public speaker?
Hmm. I haven’t heard that many in person. I guess Kay Arthur, Beth Moore would be favorites. Oh, and Peter Furler of the Newsboys used to speak so well and quote chapters of scripture during their concerts. I could listen to him over and over again.

“I’m a woman so my signature is basically just my name in very clear cursive.” So true, except for female doctors, right? I like the random questions – so ta!

Well, I have a doctor’s signature… but I blame my very long last night (9 letters). I am too lazy to write it nicely. And I never did master cursive so even when I try to write it nicely, it still looks like a 4th grader wrote it… I should have posted pictures… it’s not pretty…

  • 8. Jenny  |  December 7, 2010 at 10:08 am

    Cracker Barrell breakfast….yummmmm

  • 9. Ashley  |  December 7, 2010 at 10:16 am

You should definitely go back to Buffalo Grille. As soon as Lindsay told me where she was going to be living, I told her there was a place she had to try. My family and I have loved going to Buffalo Grille for years (at one of my mom’s old companies that’s where they’d go for lunch). Some of the best things on their menu are the migas, biscuits, and especially their bacon.

  • 10. Taryn  |  December 7, 2010 at 10:22 am

    1. Peppermint mocha or hot chocolate
    2. There is a place near Luke’s daycare called Gina’s bagel Café. We eat there with our neighbors a couple times a month. love their hashbrowns and biscuits and gravy!
    3. I am, and I almost never use it! LOL
    4. Charlie Brown Christmas, the Grinch (the cartoon one!) & Spongebob Christmas (can you tell I have a 2 1/2 yr old?)
    5. Yeah. Everyone at the office calls me the “Gift Fairy”. It’s gotten harder in recent years with everyone traveling… I buy more giftcards than I used to… But I still like going out and finding fun gifts for everyone.
    6. It’s legible and a combination of print and cursive. It’ll do.
    7. No, absolutely not. It’s a Large “T” and a squiggle and a large “E” and a bigger squiggle. And you can kind of make out the two “L”s at the end.
    8. yeah… wow, a really long time ago. 9 years ago, I guess?
    9. Peter Pan peanut butter. All or Purex sensitive detergent. Hersheys chocolate.
    10. Louie Giglio and Francis Chan. They’re amazing!

Aren’t you glad I made you tweet?!?!

  • 12. Rachel  |  December 7, 2010 at 12:50 pm

You were one of the first people to comment about how you loved my handwriting… until then I never really thought about it. Now my students comment about it all the time, but I still don’t like my handwriting. One kid (let’s face it – girl) told me the other day she liked my handwriting because it was a mixture of messy and neat. How I accomplish that, I have no idea.

  • 13. Stevie  |  December 7, 2010 at 12:51 pm

Oh my god, the hash brown casserole at Cracker Barrel is to die for! We don’t have them around here, but any time I visit a city that has one, I go there. SOOOO good!

  • 14. Mamarazzi  |  December 7, 2010 at 1:19 pm

we had a few of the same answers…this means we are both supah cool!

  • 15. Karen  |  December 7, 2010 at 1:22 pm

    1. Starbucks crazy are we? lol I don’t do Starbucks, if I was in the area I might would try something, but I’m not going out of my way to buy over priced coffee. 😛

    2. Anywhere there is a breakfast bar, but Cracker Barrel is very good, and if they don’t have grits, well it ain’t breakfast.

    3. No, just not that interested.

    4. There are many, National Lampoons Christmas Vacation, A Christmas story, any of the old cartoons.

    5. I think so, as with you, I put a lot of thought in it, try to buy what they would like, not what I would like for them. Unlike my mother, who will get you a gift certificate from a store she likes, “Mom you’re 30 years older than me, no they don’t have clothes I would would wear, no matter how pretty you think it looks on me.” lol

    6. No, rather sloppy.

    7. Other than my last name, it has that x in it.

    8. No, and don’t want to.

    9. I am with my makeup, and cleaning items, nothing else really.

    10. I don’t have one.

  • 16. Nora  |  December 7, 2010 at 2:47 pm

What is a Miga!? I don’t know what that is. I love hashbrowns too. If you and the fam are ever in STL, let me know. We’ll go to the best breakfast place in town, k!? They have amazing food and at such a great price.

I love your fun font, btw. So cute 🙂

  • 17. Kerri  |  December 7, 2010 at 2:57 pm

    Love Beth Moore!!

  • 18. Cousin Kim  |  December 7, 2010 at 3:41 pm

1.) Don’t have a Starbucks…it’s Decalf (thanks baby #2) and Peppermint mocha Coffeemate creamer! YUMMO! (I am with you…EXTRA HOT!)
2.) I sincerely like making my own…(and I make some serious MIGAS!). But if we did go out – we have plenty of Mexican food joints to choose from. No Starbucks…but PLENTY of Mexican food. Take your pick. :O) LOL
    3.) No No NOOOO
4.) I really liked Deck the Halls, and of course Nat’l Lampoons Christmas Vacation. Christmas with the Kranks was cute too.
But most of the time – I would just stick to cheesy Hallmark/LMN/ ABC Family – made for TV movies. They ALWAYS make me cry!
5.) Who knows…no one has ever complained. (Then again, WHO’s GONNA?)
    6.) Sometimes – when I am trying
    7.) Yes
8.) Ohhhh my yes…TWICE and I would go EVERY year if I didn’t have a little one and another on the way. I think I might have to wait a few years… It’s gorgeous and the MOST fun around this time of year!
9.) Yes, I am loyal to many brands. So is my husband…so I guess that’s another reason why we just “work”.
10.) WOW… I don’t have any favorite public speaker. I haven’t had the opportunity to see many. I did take a few Bible study courses with Beth Moore. She’s a phenomenal woman.

  • 19. Laurie  |  December 7, 2010 at 5:01 pm

oh, mmmm… hash browns. I love hashbrowns… I’m going to have to hunt down a cracker barrel and try this hashbrown casserole you speak of.

  • 20. mom (nana)  |  December 7, 2010 at 7:07 pm

    1. What do you order at Starbucks?
Peppermint mocha, extra hot in the winter. Mocha Chip Frapp in the summer. I even just order their regular coffee and add some cream. Don’t do this too often – too expensive for dang coffee!

    2. Where is your favorite place to eat breakfast? Hmmm well, since my hubby won’t ever ever ever take me out to breakfast this is a problem. I LOVE LOVE breakfast out too. Wonderful why he hasn’t figured out this is MY LOVE LANGUAGE??? I love migas too. Taquitos from the Taquiria in Alice are awesome too.

    3. Are you on Twitter? Why or why not? ugh, no – are you kidding me?

4.What is your favorite Christmas movie?
    White Christmas, It’s a Wonderful LIfe, Elf…

    5. Are you a good gift giver? Don’t really know. Think so sometimes.

    6. Do you like your handwriting? Bonus points for posting a picture. It’s okay. And you are kidding about posting a picture, right? That would involve some sort of computer aspect that I am unfamilar with.

    7. Is your signature legible? Bonus points for posting a picture.
yep – legible. And again, really?

    8. Have you ever been to New York during Christmas season?
No but that is on my “bucket list” – if I had a “bucket list”. I want to take LIndsay – youngest – when she graduates from college – cause she has always wanted to go – but don’t think I can convince her to go in December.

    9. Are there any items that you are completely brand loyal?
Use to be detergent but not now. Peter Pan Peanut Butter is the best. If I am going to drink a Dr. Pepper, it has to be a real Dr. Pepper – not a fake one. Pretty loyal on my make up.

    10. Who is your favorite public speaker?
Beth Moore is an awesome speaker. I also like Andy Standley -he leads a church in Georgia and is great to listen to.

  • 21. E  |  December 7, 2010 at 8:15 pm

I feel lazy for not including my handwriting. Maybe I’ll go back and add that. I love your fun font!

  • 22. Angela  |  December 7, 2010 at 9:24 pm

I love this! I did the meme on my blog AND posted handwriting and signature pictures. 😛

  • 23. Erin  |  December 7, 2010 at 10:48 pm

You handwriting is awesome. I’m kind of jealous!
