Ten on Tuesday (4)

Thanks for all of the prayers for Stephen. Please keep them coming. He’s in a lot of pain and it just breaks my heart. Many of you were curious about the pictures. Stephen was on a bachelor weekend trip with some guys, he made them take pictures. So he could see? So he could show his mom? Probably so his wife could blog about itWe are all infinitely grateful.

Here we go again! I loved reading your comments about toilet paper and Tom Cruise. And it’s always fun to know what everyone’s reading so I can get ideas. If you’re playing along, I’ve attempted to add Mr. Linky to the bottom. Be sure to add a link to that post. There were about 13ish of you that played along on your blogs last week, it’s easier to click around when the links are all in one place. So add and then visit each other. You won’t regret it- you guys are funny!

”10 on Tuesday

1. What animal should cease to exist? (Not including bugs. That’s too obvious.)
A lot of them. Possums, snakes, rats, ferrets. I’m not a fan of cats but since they bring so many people joy, I’ll take one for the team and keep them alive.

2. What was your favorite part of elementary school?
I loved most things about elementary school. I loved the desks, overhead projectors, cheesy bulletin boards, recess, silent reading time, lined paper. I loved when teachers had chalk holders so that their fingers wouldn’t get messy and they’d never accidentally scratch the chalkboard. I loved book reports and assemblies. I loved that I was never tired and I got home early enough that I could still play with my friends after school. Man, those were the days.

3. If scientists found a way to allow dogs to talk, do you think we should implement it? Or should we just keep them quiet?
I’m really torn on this. Sometimes I’d LOVE to hear what Rookie is thinking. But I’m afraid I’d be disappointed. I could learn that the only reason the stands in from of me and fusses is because she’s bored or she thinks is funny to watch me try to figure her out. I’m not sure I’d like to hear why she licks herself or what she really thinks about the television we choose to watch. Plus, if all dogs could talk, the world would be a lot louder.

4. How do you order your Starbucks?
I only go to Starbucks when I have a gift card or a really bad day. Otherwise, I just can’t spend the money on it. Plus, I think their actual coffee sucks. With that said, my drink order depends. This time of year I get a tall pumpkin spice latte extra hot. In the summer I get java chip frappachinos with peppermint. Around Christmas I get mocha with peppermint extra hot.

I suppose I should explain my extra hotness. It’s not that I like really hot drinks because I don’t. But I like my drink to last for a long time. I order it extra hot so that it can sit in my car with me and smell delicious and I can build up the anticipation. Once it’s drinkable I can savor it and love it! I just find that if I don’t get extra hot I drink it quickly and then it’s gone and I’m sad.

5. What’s worse? People who don’t know the difference between your and you’re OR people who don’t use smack their food?
Both are awful. AWFUL. I think I’m going to go with the smacking though. If there is an incorrect grammar user, I can just ignore their blog or facebook or emails. But it’s hard to ignore smackers. They are loud and disgusting and ALL OVER the place. You can’t easily delete, minimize, or close a stranger who is smacking near you. Or maybe you can, but I’m pretty sure it’s not legal.

6. What CD can you listen to over and over?
One of George Strait’s old greatest hits cds. Or Passion’s Hymns Ancient and Modern cd. Or Shane & Shane’s Upstairs cd.

7. What was the most surprising thing about college?
The schedule! I took naps regularly, even during the semesters that I worked. It was also shocking that it’s so hard. I found out that I’m not nearly as smart as I thought I was! Before college, I didn’t know what a B was but in college, I celebrated B’s.

I shocked myself in college. I’m not always very outgoing. I’ve gotten better about it because I’ve forced myself to be outgoing. But I am shocked that I forced myself to join a spirit group and a community group all by myself. Nobody at my side. Completely out of my comfort zone. I’m sure I had my fair share of migraines and nervous poops in preparation. (TMI??)

8. What’s the best deal you ever got? (Biggest sale item.)
I’ve probably gotten a few good deals in my time. I’m good at deals. Last week I got a pair of shoes for $3.50! That was awesome. When Stephen and I bought our house we went to Big Lots and found an area rug for our living room. It was originally like $150, marked on sale for $100. It rang up for $40. We were thrilled. I’m not a fan of the rug anymore because it’s kind of rough but it’ll do until we have crawling children. And also the table I mentioned yesterday. A brand new dining room table for $100.

9. Who is your role model? Why?
I have many for different reasons and this is not an exhaustive list. My mom because she’s a fantastic mother and did an amazing job running our household while keeping us close and making us all feel loved. My dad because he is SO smart. So so smart. My aunts who are both breast cancer survivors and some of the strongest women I’ve ever known. My Meme because she and my Papa are a beautiful picture of true love. Seriously, they can make you melt if you watch them dance. My grandma because she is so selfless. She loves everyone, serves, cares, she makes everyone feel important. There’s a woman at my church named Lisa. I’ve always loved her and respected her. But as I’ve grown, I realize how truly rare it is to meet someone so genuinely loving and I’m sure that everyone that’s had the pleasure of meeting her feels the same way. I cherish my relationship with her.

10. What movie would you like to see that is in theaters right now?
Nothing actually. I’ll want to see New Moon when it comes out. I’ll want to see that one with Sandra Bullock when they adopt that teenager. That looks amazing. I’m not much of a movie-goer so I don’t even know what else is coming out. And (true story) I had to go to Cinemark’s website to even see what’s out. If there is something good coming, let me know!

Hopefully this Mr. Linky works. Add your link to the list. Everyone else, click around and leave some comments! (Okay, he’s not working like he is supposed to. But if you click that little icon, it’ll take you to the list of participants. I’ll try to get it figured out for next week.)

Seven Quick Takes (vol.11)

What a glorious Friday it is, my friends! Almost every minute of my weekend is planned, but I’m okay with that. Anyone else doing Seven Quick Takes? Make sure to add your name to Mr. Linky over at Conversion Diary.

Bloggers, be prepared to be jealous. Last night I had dinner with Kathleen from Kapachino and Lauren from, well, Lauren from Texas. Long story short, they went to the same conference and made plans to have dinner afterwards. Luckily they asked if I wanted to meet up too. Of course I do! So we had a great dinner. We talked about our lives, our blogs, how the non-bloggers in our lives think we are weird, and we talked about y’all.

Let me just say that I was quite naive when I began blogging. I thought I’d just write and maybe my mom and husband would read. I had no idea that strangers read blogs. Or that you get to know other bloggers via their blogs. Or that sometimes you actually meet them in real life. I didn’t know this. But its a nice surprise!

So… that balloon boy… yeah…

Stephen and I are having dinner with Lauren and her husband on Saturday. Of course we are thrilled because we just love them to pieces…. not literally, you know, like Lennie. Just metaphorically… We like them a lot. Anyways, if you don’t follow Lauren (you should), she recently got her wisdom teeth taken out. She’s still in a lot of pain so we aren’t quite sure what she’ll be able to eat. I’m bringing dessert and a side. I’m bringing PW’s roasted garlic potatoes. This is the third time I’ll be making them in ONE WEEK. I can’t help it, they are just that good. And easy. But the question is this: Is it cheating if I take dump cake and vanilla ice cream?

For those of you who don’t know what that is, I’m not talking to you. For the rest of you, what time is it?

I’ve only had two pumpkin spice lattes this season… both were the first week they came out. This is a travesty, I tell you! I think I’ll get another one sometime this weekend. I think I’d feel better about myself if I got one. It’s really a disservice to Autumn if I don’t, right?

When you have some spare minutes on a computer with speakers, visit this site: You won’t regret it. I haven’t watched them all but I’ve watched the one with Colt, Colt and Sam, and Michelle Aguilar (from Biggest Loser) and I’ve been thoroughly impressed!

Congratulations to the winners of the giveaways!! I wrote up all the entries, put them in a bowl, and Stephen drew two names. We took our jobs very seriously.

molly won the custom onesie! (Which is perfect since she’s pregnant!)
Southern Gal won the jewelry tote! (Which is perfect because she probably has some jewelry to tote!)

Email me to claim your prize!! chelsea.hurst (at) hotmail (dot) com

Visit these two Etsy sites when you’re looking for Christmas gifts. Apparently we had another issue with the text of the link being too close to the regular text. I’ll help you out: CLICK HERE to look at EdieCastle’s shop and CLICK HERE to look at Taryn’s shop. I hope you enjoyed the giveaway. That’s just a little preview of what’s to come in the next couple months! So stick around!!

Have a good weekend, y’all! It’s 9:18 and OU still sucks.

(A Title-less Pointless Post)

Since today is Good Friday and nobody has to go to work except me, I’m not going to write a fancy schmancy post. I’m sure you’re all out working in the yard, running errands, or visiting family. For the select 4 people who will read today (Stephen, mom, dad, Lindsay), here goes nothing:

-I have had a few people tell me that they are intimidated by the Crock Pot. Oh people, you are missing out on one of the great glories in life. Think back to those wonderful days in high school where you come home and the house smells delicious. You know your mom has been in the kitchen making something wonderful. You can have that with the Crock Pot. Throw it all in the pot in the morning and when you come home from work, it’s done! For you morning people (Jim), this is perfect. Wake up. Cut up your veggies. Make your seasonings. Do whatever you need to. For us non-morning people (me), do this at night. I put all of my stuff together in the pot, put it in the fridge, and then in the morning I just add the wet ingredients and go. And because you are slow cooking, the flavors are delicious. There is almost nothing better than carrots that have been cooking all day with your roast! So take the plunge! (I just made a roast on Monday. Will post the recipe here later today.)

-Do you want to know why my husband rocks? Well, for many reasons… but here’s a specific. He is one of those lucky souls that doesn’t have work today. If I were him, I wouldn’t set an alarm. I’d sleep until my body felt like waking up and then slowly start being productive. Not my man. He set his alarm for 6:45. Got his sweet butt out of bed and went to Starbucks to get me a mocha and a muffin! Oh I love him!! (Thanks Esteban!)

-I’m pretty sure I’ve discussed this but we have trays of herbs and veggies growing in our house. Stephen built a raised garden and filled it with a great veggie blend dirt. Today he’ll transfer the plants into the garden. Want to know why I’m annoyed? Half of my parsley didn’t grow. And my dill went limp and is tangled. I think I’ll plant some new seeds directly into the garden. I’ll spread them out a bit more to see if that helps.

-I’m baking my first carrot cake this weekend. I’m in charge of two desserts for our Easter lunch. The first is this amazing Oreo dessert that I made for Stephen’s b-day (will add this to the recipe blog at some point). I thought I’d give a carrot cake a try. Sunday is also my MIL’s b-day and she loves carrot cake. And also, I thought that making a carrot cake on Easter was kind of cute. Wish me luck. If I fail, I may never do it again!

-My cousin had a baby yesterday. Little baby Sophie Grace! She’s quite early, she wasn’t due until the middle of May. She weighs 3lbs 8oz! Precious precious baby!!! Say prayers for her and momma! She’s doing just fine, no complications. Praise God!

-My church had a member of Jews for Jesus come to church last night for Maundy Thursday. The presentation was fascinating. I encourage you to google it and learn a bit about the Jewish culture and Passover. I hope you all make it to church tonight and focus on what today is all about. I know many like to avoid it so they don’t have to “feel bad”… Yeah, it’s sad. Yes, it’s pretty depressing. But it’s important to acknowledge. You (and me of course) put Him on that cross. So at least take a minute to focus on what He did for you. “The punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.”

-We got our tax return on Wednesday! I never updated from my previous post, but thank God I had made a mistake. I had my dad review my taxes and I had left off our property taxes. So we got a bit more than $39! Whoo hoo!

-Does anyone in Houston have a good Handyman? We are thinking about removing our shower and installing a new one. We’ll need to move some plumbing. It’s a fairly big job. One we’d rather pay someone to do it than have Stephen waste a bunch of his free time on it.

Have a fantastic weekend!!!
