Ten on Tuesday (43)

We have a college themed week here on Ten on Tuesday. The questions were provided by Ashley from Ashley’s Antics. Go visit her and thank her for her questions. Also, if you are participating, please link back to Roots & Rings.

*If you plan on participating next week, read below for a note.

1. Where did you go to college?
I went to The University of Texas in the great city of Austin, Texas. If you’d like to read about how I made my college decision, you can read this post.

2. What did you study?
I got my degree in Marketing, which was in the Business School. I was going to do Advertising but decided I’d rather have the business background. In reality, I should have done journalism like I’d originally thought about doing while I was in college. But God had a plan and it all worked out according to His purpose. Who knows what would have been different if I’d chosen another major.

3. Was college really all that it was cracked up to be?
Yes. I loved college. It was a lot harder than I thought it was going to be. I never had to study in high school but always got good grades. That was not the case in college. Even when I studied hard, I didn’t do very well. But it was fun. I had a ton of great friends and I was always busy doing things I enjoyed.

4. How far were you from home?
A little over three hours.

5. Did you have the same roommate all four years?
Nope. I did potluck my freshman year and lived with a girl I didn’t know. Sophomore year I lived with two girls. And then junior and senior year I lived with one of the girls from sophomore year.

6. Where did you order food from at 2am?
I didn’t ever order food. Freshman year we’d eat at Taco Cabana late at night. After that, we’d eat ice cream or something like that. I didn’t eat a ton my first few years of college, I was really skinny. At the end of college, I ate more and gained some weight and snacked a lot.

7. Did you date in college or were you tied down?
I dated a few guys but nothing serious. I met Stephen my junior year in college and I was “tied down” about a week into that relationship. I knew it was THE relationship.

8. Funniest drunk college moment?
Oh goodness, I have no idea. There were probably several my first two years. Probably none that I need to share. I do remember one unfortunate incident when we were at a party at an apartment complex and one of my friends walked over to another building to go get another friend of ours. She accidentally went to the 2nd floor instead of the 3rd floor… after much door banging to get her to open the door, the people in the 2nd floor apartment called the cops. It wasn’t funny at all at the time, but it’s pretty hilarious now.

9. Did you make it to class on time?
If I went to class, I was on time. I think being late is extremely disrespectful.

10. What was your favorite class in college?
My upper division marketing classes were really interesting. I also loved Nonverbal Communication. It was fascinating. I took Children’s Literature and I really enjoyed that too. I loved that we had to read books like Charlotte’s Web and The Giver. Great books!

Your turn! Here’s Mr. Linky.

*Next week’s Ten on Tuesday will be a bit more complicated. All of your answers will be photos. Because I know this may involve some house cleaning or additional planning, the questions will be posted by Friday. I’ll remind you on Friday. I think it’ll be fun so I hope you all participate.

Ten on Tuesday (42)

This week’s questions come from me again. Hope you like them!

1. Do you have an innie or an outie?
I normally have an innie but at this point in my pregnancy I have an outie or an even-with-my skinnie.

2. What kind of milkshake do you order?
Chocolate. I’m of the mindset that you shouldn’t waste calories on dessert if it doesn’t involve chocolate.

3. How often do you repeat outfits at work?
Pre-pregnancy- Probably every 3 weeks. Some items shorter, some longer. The dress code at my office is really casual so that helps.
Pregnancy- I currently wear the same few things every week. I have two maternity shirts that are still long enough, all the other days I wear Stephen’s t-shirts. But I refuse to spend any money on more maternity clothes… even though I’ll need them again in the future.

4. What are your feelings about thank you notes?
I think they are necessary. I think it’s tacky if you don’t send thank you notes. I have a love/hate relationship with writing them… I hate it because it takes SO LONG but I love to do it because I think that if someone is going to give me something, they deserve to know how much I appreciate it. And while I don’t give gifts just to get praise, I expect a thank you note.

5. Do you like spicy food?
I wish I did, but I just can’t handle it.

6. How many toilet paper squares do you use?
Depends on if it’s one ply or two. If it’s that nasty toilet paper in public restrooms that is so thin that you can see through it, I don’t count. I probably use ten thousand in that case. If it’s good toilet paper, probably like 4 or 5 squares. I’m not one to use a wad. I think it’s unnecessary.

7. Were you in Girl Scouts?
Yeah. I was in Brownies for 2 or 3 years. I don’t remember much about it except snack time from a giant cookie tin. And selling girl scout cookies… that sucked.

8. Notebooks/Journals: College ruled? Wide Ruled? No lines? Spiral Bound? Plain front? Decorative?
I live looking at really pretty journals but when it comes down to writing them, I prefer something with a spiral. It’s so much easier. I hate wide ruled! Most importantly, I have to use a good pen.

9. Do you snack throughout the day? What do you pack for snacks?
Yes, I usually have a snack at 10:30. Sometimes yogurt, sometimes cheese. Then if I didn’t finish my lunch, I’ll eat the last bit at about 3:30. Crackers or cheese or something.

10. What is your favorite month? Why?
November. First of all, it’s my birthday month so that automatically makes it wonderful. But I also love it because it has Thanksgiving and a lot of Christmas anticipation. It’s a good month. I’ve never met anyone who doesn’t like November.

Here’s Mr. Linky.

Ten on Tuesday (41)

I made up the questions this week. So basically if you don’t like them, don’t tell me. I’m pregnant and fragile.

1. What is your current favorite television show?
I would say The Biggest Loser but we’re in the off season so it’s not really in the forefront of my mind. I really love Community. I honestly think it’s one of the best shows on television right now. It’s hilarious and I love Joel McHale. (Also a huge fan of Big Bang Theory and Wipe Out.)

2. Apple juice or orange juice?
Mott’s apple juice. Sometimes I drink it in a wine glass because it makes me feel classy and not like a toddler. I like orange juice with a lot of pulp and Stephen doesn’t really so we usually buy pulp-less OJ.

3. It’s Shark Week on Discover Channel. Do you watch? Why or why not?
I’ve never really understood what the fuss is all about. Stephen and I watched a bit on Sunday night and it was pretty fascinating. I don’t think I could watch shark shows for an entire week… but one or two shows is fun.

4. What are the non-blog websites that you visit regularly?
Hotmail, Facebook, Twitter, Failblog, Failbooking, Postsecret, Etsy.

5. What is your favorite way to prepare green beans? Asparagus? Potatoes? Carrots?
-I steam my green beans and add them to carmelized onions.
-I grill asparagus with olive oil and kosher salt.
-If we are talking about red potatoes, either chopped up and cooked int butter and/or bacon fat and made into hash browns or PW’s roasted garlic and new potatoes recipe.
-I boil the carrots for 8 minutes and then add them to a dab of butter and brown sugar.

6. What is your favorite flower?
“Daisies. They’re so friendly. Don’t you think daisies are the friendliest flower?”

7. How do you feel about handkerchiefs?
I think they are gross. (And for those of you who followed my answer for #6, I totally didn’t mean to ask another YGM related question. It just happened.)

8. If you could only shop at 3 stores for the rest of your life, what would they be? (You probably should include a grocery store.)
Kroger, Old Navy, and Target. Kroger is my grocery store of choice so that would be where I’d like to do my grocery shopping. Old Navy is within my budget and I can actually fit into their jeans, so I could handle that being my main clothes store. I’d get everything else at Target.

9. If you could only use wine for one purpose for the rest of your life, which would you choose? To cook with or to drink?
This is pretty tough but I think I may go with cooking. I really love the flavor that wine brings to food and I think I’d rather have that flavor. I can always have a beer, right.

10. What’s your bedtime?
Sadly, around 10:30. TOO LATE. We just can’t seem to get to bed any earlier. I’m so tired in the mornings but I wake up in the evenings and it’s hard to turn my brain off. In my first trimester I went to sleep by 9. Those were good times!

Ten on Tuesday (40)

Wow, this is the 40th week of Ten on Tuesday. I can’t believe y’all aren’t bored with this yet! This week’s questions are from Abby at The Adventures of Abby and Ryan.

1. How do you take your coffee on an average day? How do you like your coffee if you’re spluging?
I drink my coffee black. Sometimes I’ll add pumpkin spice flavored creamer in the fall, but I don’t always like it. If I’m splurging I don’t get coffee, I get coffee flavored drinks. I love Java Chip Frappucinos with peppermint. So good! I also love pumpkin spice lattes and gingerbread lattes.

2. What is your genre of books to read?
Chick lit. I don’t like to think when I read. I also like reading cookbooks. Is that weird?

3. Where do you want to retire, if you could go anywhere?
I want to retire wherever my family is. I don’t care if the weather or scenery is bad. There is no point in living somewhere if you aren’t surrounded by the people you love. Besides, I can just travel to those places.

4. The 17-year-old you is told to write a 10-minute speech. What topic would you have picked?
I was a junior in high school when I was 17… so probably baseball. Back then I knew players and stats and all sorts of info that was normally reserved for men and little boys. I watched games every evening. So I had a lot of thoughts and feelings about The Game, I could definitely give a speech about it.

5. What word describes you best?

6. What is the next “event” that you are looking forward to? (ex.: vacation, moving, date, job change, etc)
I have a baby shower this weekend and I’m very much looking forward to it. If we are thinking on a bigger scale, well, I’m having a baby in September. That’s kind of a big deal.

7. Do you like to discuss controversial topics or do you prefer to avoid those types of conversations?
I do not. It makes me frustrated. I think everyone is entitled to their own opinion but I don’t usually understand those opinions and that frustrates me.

8. Would you rather add 4 free hours to each day, or add 1 extra day to the week?
This is a really difficult question. I’ve debated both in my head, both assuming that those would be NON working hours. I think I’d have to go with an extra day. It would be AMAZING to have 4 more non-working hours every day but realistically I’d probably spend them sleeping so they’d be wasted. Plus, with an additional day, it would be easier to take weekend vacations. I love weekend vacations!

9. If you created a sports team; what would your colors and mascot be?
I’d bring back the Colt .45s because that’s an awesome name. They’d be burnt orange and navy. They’d play baseball, obviously.

10. If you had to be a teacher, what subject would you teach?
Ideally, I’d teach home economics. I’d teach the students to cook and write thank you notes and call their grandma when they need their pants hemmed. I’d teach them that debt is of the devil and that if you fold a t-shirt down the center, you’ll have a ridiculous looking fold when you wear it. I think it could be a fun class.

Great questions this week! Thanks Abby!

Ten on Tuesday (39)

This week, Sarah from Life at a Different Pace came up with a new version of Ten on Tuesday. I thought it sounded like a fun idea! Hope y’all had fun with it too.

For each of the following 10 categories, tell us which brand/product you use and why.

1. Cell Phone
I use Verizon. They are cheap and have great service. In fact, after I got married I stayed on my parents’ plan, add Stephen to their plan, and we just pay them monthly. It’s cheaper than starting our own contract. So that’s that. And I use the LG Dare. I like it.

2. Email
I use hotmail for my primary email and gmail for my junk mail. I know you’re all going to tell me to switch over to gmail because it’s amazing and blah-blah-Lauren-from-Texas-blah. But I like hotmail and it’s too late to change now. So hush.

3. Toothpaste
I used to be Aquafresh only. I like the way it tastes and the little kid in me likes that three colors come out everytime you squeeze the tube. Recently I’ve been trying be a good couponing shopper, so I’m not longer very brand loyal on toothpaste. We are currently using Colgate.

4. Car
We have a non-working Chevrolet Cavalier in our driveway that we are trying to sell. Our working car is a Nissan Murano. We bought it about a year and a half ago and, overall, we’re satisfied. It’s my first SUV and I don’t know that I could ever go back to a car.

5. Writing Utensil
My absolute favorite pen, and the only one I use at work, is the blue Pilot V5 or V7. (I can’t remember if I use the Fine or Extra Fine.) I get one pen from the supply cabinet and use it until it’s completely gone and then get another one. I fill out a lot of paperwork at work and I would go nuts if I didn’t have a good pen.

6. Lotion
I use this age defying hand lotion that Avon used to make. For some ridiculous reason, they discontinued it so I bought like 10 bottles of it. I only have like 2 left. I’m not sure what I’m going to do when it’s gone. It’s perfect. It’s not greasy or smelly or sticky. As for body lotion, I use Aveeno oatmeal something or other. Sensitive skin stuff.

7. Interior Paint
Whatever is cheapest. Either Behr or Valspar, depending on where I’m shopping.

8. Soda/Drink
Most of the time I drink water. I’m also currently obsessed with Bordon chocolate milk. My favorite coke, though, is Dr. Pepper. Why? Because it’s the most delicious. And I also love Diet Coke with a lime wedge.

9. Laundry Detergent
If you were around last year you know I went through a LONG phase of severely itchy skin for no reason. This lasted for months and still comes on every now and then. In order to combat it, I’ve switched to sensitive skin everything. Shampoo, conditioner, soap, lotion, deodorant, everything. So now I use Tide Free to wash my clothes.

10. Medicine
I use store brand stuff. Asprin, ibuprofen, migraine relief, naproxen sodium, etc. I don’t go by brand names. To those of you who do… WHY? They are all the same!

So that was fun. These will be interesting to read… see what we’ve all got in common.

Ten on Tuesday (38)

This week’s questions are brought to you by the lovely Lisa at Lisa’s Yarns. Go visit her and thank her for her questions.

1. What is the worst movie you have ever seen?
I have this obsession with baseball so I love baseball movies. One time in college, Stephen and I were at Walmart and we were looking at the $5 bin of DVD’s. I saw this movie called Pitcher and the Pin-Up. I should have known that it was going to be awful with a title like that but I bought it anyways. Oh my, it was terrible. Every single movie cliché was represented. Just when you thought you’d reached the climax, something else would happen that would make it go on and on. It was terrible and I’m sorry to say that I own it.

2. Do you have a favorite Disney/Pixar film?
It’s so hard to pick just one! I really loved Finding Nemo so I think that may be my favorite. However I also really loved Aladdin!

3. Do you have a favorite movie from the 80′s?
Honestly, no I don’t. I never was that big into 80’s movies.

4. Are there any movies you saw more than once in the theater?
I very rarely go to the movies to begin with. If I actually saw the same movie twice, it would be a HUGE deal. I may or may not have seen Julie & Julia twice in the theater, I can’t remember.

5. What is one city/area of the US (or country you live if you do not live in the US) that you have not seen but would like to see?
One day I’d like to go to Boston or Chicago. I’ve never been but would like to go see some sights there and eat some of the food. But that still wouldn’t be one of my first few vacation choices. Stephen and I would rather go to Disney World or New York.

6. What are your favorite toppings on an Ice Cream Sundae?
Those soft chocolate sprinkles. Those things are the best! I also love hot fudge or just the basic chocolate sauce. I don’t like nuts on ice cream. I also don’t really like fruit on my ice cream if it’s a sundae. If it’s a basic bowl of vanilla ice cream, I love fresh strawberries on it. Now I want ice cream. Thanks a lot, Lisa.

7. How many proms did you go to? What color was your prom dress? If you went to multiple proms, what color was your favorite prom dress?
I went to three proms. I went to a small school so we had junior/senior prom, not just senior prom. My sophomore year I got invited by a friend of mine so I got to go then to. (It was on a boat. Super cool. Until every senior boy had posed on the front and screamed “I’m king of the world!!” That part was not super cool.) My favorite dress was red.

8. Is there a sport or extra-curricular activity that you didn’t get to try as a child that you wish you would have? (e.g. gymnastics, piano lessons, ballet, etc.)
Nope. We got to try anything we wanted to try. Although there is an activity that I wish I didn’t have to participate in… dance. Ugh. Disgusting. I was the little girl who didn’t smile on stage. For some reason my mom thought I should do ballet and tap. I probably only did it two or three years but it certainly felt like my entire childhood.

9. How many siblings do you have? Are you the oldest, middle, or youngest?
I have two siblings. An older brother and a younger sister, which would make me the middle. Judge accordingly.

10. Do you feel like you fit in with your age group? Or do you feel younger/older than your age group?
I’ve never felt like I fit in my age group, I have always felt older. However if I take a step back and think that I am a 25 year old married, pregnant woman, it doesn’t seem abnormal. It seems perfectly normal… I’m just not surrounded by many (if any) 25 year old preggos so I guess I still feel old.

Ten on Tuesday (37)

This week’s questions are a random bunch that my parents, sister, Stephen, and I came up with on Sunday night after watching fireworks. Unless you want me coming up with the questions every week, I’m going to need to help!

1. If given the opportunity, would you choose a mediocre job that paid well or your dream job that paid poorly?
I don’t really have a dream job. Honestly, I think I’d choose a mediocre job and use the money to pay off our mortgage, car, and student loans. We’d save a bunch and then I’d quit and be a stay at home mom since that’s really what I want to do.

2. What is your favorite thing about the 4th of July? (For the foreigners: What is your impression of the 4th of July?)
I love that the entire day is centered around eating and being outside. Those are two of my favorite things in the world!

3. What’s the most random fact you know about American history?
There used to be a state called Franklin. It only existed for about 4 years and it was never recognized by Congress.

4. What is the best fireworks display you’ve ever seen?
It was this year. We were in Galveston and watched the show that the city put on. It was fantastic. I’m used to the one that my neighborhood/city does and we have a much smaller budget. I saw several types that I’d never seen before. Plus it was especially amazing because we were watching them over the water so there was a beautiful reflection.

5. Who taught you how to put on makeup?
I’m not sure. I assume my mom? And the ladies at the Clinique counter. I still don’t really know how to put on makeup, I just do a very simple face.

6. Have you ever gone through a financial planning process? Tell us about it.
Not really. We’ve made a budget but it isn’t very thorough. We’d like to do a better one and we are actually in the process of it. I’m looking forward to reading your tips.

7. What was your favorite outfit as a kid? Bonus points for pictures.
I had this pair of jorts that had watermelon slices painted on them so when I rolled up the bottom, the slices would show. Super cool, I know. I also loved to wear my mom’s Jazzercise shirt with hot pink leggings. I thought I was really spiffy.

8. Do you prefer a beach, lake, swimming pool, or no water?
The beach. I feel awkward in lakes and swimming pools… I don’t really know how to swim around to entertain myself. I enjoy being on boats but I think it gets old. I’d so much rather go to the beach and watch the ocean and swim in the waves. That’s my happy place.

9. Do you recycle? If not, why?
No I don’t. Because my neighborhood doesn’t make it convenient for us. If they’d pick things up, I’d do it in an instant but as it is now, we’d have to drive our items to a drop. Maybe one day we’ll stop being so lazy and do it anyways. My mom says I should do it for my children’s children. She’s probably right.

10. What are your thoughts and feelings about the Twilight Saga?
I really loved the books but I hate the movies. I wasn’t going to read the books because I thought they sounded really dumb. My sister convinced me to and I’m glad she did. I genuinely loved them. The movies however, were terrible. I haven’t seen the latest but I know it can’t be fantastic. Kristen Stewart is a terrible actress, I don’t like Edward’s makeup, they leave so much out of the story. Overall, it sucks and I’m disappointed because they had such a great story to work with.

Ten on Tuesday (36)

Welcome to Week 36 of Ten on Tuesday. This week’s questions come from Katie at The Mommy Days. Go check her out, say hello, and thank her for her questions.

1. What was/is your favorite live action (meaning not animated) kids movie?
Does Enchanted count? It was half animated but mostly real people. Or Elf if that’s considered a kid’s movie. I love Elf!

2. What is a bad habit you have? Are you working on breaking it?
Some people might say that my Chapstick addiction is a bad habit. I do not agree with them. My worst habit is probably my email addiction. I check it compulsively. No, I’m not working on breaking it although I’m sure Jansen will be sure that my addiction subsides significantly!

3. Describe your father in 3 words.
Reliable, smart, leader.

4. Which character in the Breakfast Club were you most like in the ’80s?
Don’t kill me… I’ve never seen The Breakfast Club. I KNOW I KNOW. I need to.

5. Name 5 songs you know ALL the lyrics to.
This is an impossible question. I know the lyrics to many songs! (Although I don’t sing outloud unless I’m alone.) The most common? Worship music. I’d say I probably know more Chris Tomlin songs verbatim than any other artist.

6. Do you make pancakes from scratch or a box mix?
I don’t make pancakes. I can’t. I’m a complete failure every time I try. However, on the very few times I’ve given it a shot, I’ve used a mix.

7. What was your worst job ever? Why?
My 6 month “career” at a bank. It was terrible. It was the job I got right out of college. It paid well and seemed like a grown up job. I was pretty excited about it. I spent a good majority of the time in training… that part wasn’t so bad. But then I got into the bank and it was terrible. The is so much pressure in the banking industry since there are two banks on every corner. They wanted us to be calling customers and trying to sell them products. I had a problem with that for two reasons. 1) Nobody wants anyone calling them. I certainly don’t. If I need something from my bank, I’ll call them. 2) I don’t believe in encouraging debt. They wanted us to encourage people to get home equity loans even though I could see their account and knew they had no business getting a home equity loan. I just didn’t feel right about it so I didn’t do it… consequently I never met my weekly goals. So basically I felt like a failure on a weekly basis.

8. What was your favorite class in high school?
It was a class called Novel. I only took it one semester (I think that was all that it was offered) but it was fantastic. We read 9 novels in one semester and all we did in class was discuss. Grades were based on discussion and essays. Loved it. It revived my love for reading.

9. Favorite summer guilty pleasure?
I’m a grown up, I don’t get summer anymore. My guilty hot weather pleasure is sitting on the beach for hours while reading a book and drinking beer. Obviously that isn’t happening this summer because preggos can’t have beer and we turn into witches when we’re in the heat for too long. I have spent some time on the beach but mostly under the shade while downing water and then running into the ocean to pee while my husband yells at me and tells me that if I pee in the ocean then tiny fish and bacteria are going to swim up my hoohaa. I do it anyways.

10. Please share your best money saving tip!
My biggest tip: You don’t need that. That’s not my biggest tip, although it’s true.

How we save money? We don’t spend money without thinking about it. We buy storebrand food, medicine, toiletries. We use coupons and meal plan. We take our lunch to work 90% of the time. We turn our AC up when we’re at work (and no, it doesn’t cost more to cool it off at the end of the day than to keep it running all day long).

Your turn!

Ten on Tuesday (35)

Today’s questions come from Angela at Craving Cupcakes (<- link). This is her second time to contribute a set of questions. Thanks Angela!

1. If you could trade lives with another blogger for a day, who would it be and why?
We may all have the same answer for this one. My answer? Pioneer Woman. Why? Because I want to play in her kitchen! OH! Or maybe Bakerella so I could see how it feels to be so stinking talented!

2. Do you prefer receiving handmade or store bought gifts? Be honest!
Depends. I do love handmade items. There is a lot of love in them. To this day, one of the coolest gifts I’ve ever gotten was hand-knit socks from DebbieQ (<- link). But not everyone is talented! Sometimes it’s nice to get a gift card or a book or something else.

3. Would you rather camp or stay in a hotel?
Absolutely no contest. HOTEL. I hate camping. I’m such a picky sleeper that I am awake all night. I need a bed and white noise and a fan. Oh and a bathroom with toilet paper.

4. What’s your favorite comfort food?
My mom’s meatloaf. Nobody else’s meatloaf, just my mom’s. Although she doesn’t have to make it, it just needs to be her recipe. Luckily it’s not a secret so she’s given the recipe to me and I’ve made it a few hundred times. I especially love to make mini meatloaves by the boatload and freeze them in small disposable foil tins, two loaves per pan.

5. You’re having a really bad day at work. How do you unwind when you come home?
I sit in front of the tv. If I have a really bad day, I get the remote without any fight. And I usually eat some ice cream or make brownies or something like that. If I’m really tired, stressed, and grumpy then I don’t cook. We’ll either eat frozen pizza or go to dinner.

6. What’s your favorite chore? (Or, the chore you hate the least)
I don’t really mind cleaning showers. Get the shower wet, sprinkle Comet, scrub with a big brush. Ba-da-bing. Sparkly shower! Or maybe I should say making dinner. That’s a chore, right? I don’t mind that, either.

7. What got you interested in blogging?
I didn’t know that this blogging world existed. I had no idea that there were so many people out there that wrote on the internet! What’s more, I didn’t know that strangers read other strangers’ blogs. I had heard of blogging and my friend Kelly used to read Taryn’s blog (<- link). I read her’s a few times and thought, “Hmm, I should start one. I’ve always enjoyed writing. This could be a non-threatening way to do it. And I’ll make my family read it.” So I did. I posted it on Facebook and emailed my family. And somehow strangers started reading it and I made all these internet friends. Who knew?

8. Are you currently reading a book? What is it?
Baby Wise. It has come highly recommended by several people. It seems like common sense, for the most part. I don’t like reading it because it is making me tired. It makes me think about all the work ahead of me. Yes, I know it’ll all be worth it. But right now I am tired and I don’t want to think about taking care of another human being.

9. Do you have a favorite artist?

10. Have you ever met someone famous?
Yes. In 8th grade I went with my friend to Seattle for the opening of Safeco Field. Her dad grew up with Jay Buhner. That was back when Griffey and Alex Rodriguez were on the team. For a baseball lover, it was Heaven. I’ve also met Augie Garrido (baseball coach for UT) several times. Not sure if you include him or not. I do. I’ve also met several Astros at fan fest events. I don’t think I’ve met any famous non-athletes.

Ten on Tuesday (34)

This week’s questions are from a variety of people. If you remember, I was a slacker a few weeks ago and didn’t do a ToT. Instead I asked for some questions. This is what we ended up with!

1. What would the title of your autobiography be?
Title: Why Are You Reading This?
Subtitle: My Blog Is So Much More Interesting

2. What’s the funniest thing you’ve ever heard a child say or seen him/her do?
On the post where I asked for questions, I told a story about a little boy who said that his tummy was full of what was on his plate but he thought his tongue and molars could really want a brownie. I thought that was pretty funny.

3. What is your favorite kids game to play?
It says “is”… it doesn’t say “was.” So that’s assuming I still play kids’ games which I don’t really. I played  Skipbo about a year ago and I love that game. I can’t really think of any kids’ games that I play. I’m boring.

4. If you got invited to a potluck BBQ tomorrow, what would you bring?
Considering the fact that I don’t really want to go to the grocery store, I’d make the pasta and chicken salad that’s currently on our menu this week. It’s easy and delicious.

What you need (everything is optional except the pasta and some sort of dressing): spiral pasta, sliced carrots, cherry tomatoes, chicken, red peppers, dressing (something oil based dressing with parmesan or romano in it).

Boil your pasta. In a big bowl, mix your pasta with all your other ingredients. My mom adds olives but I don’t like olives so I don’t add that. Pour some dressing over the top and mix. We like to eat it cold.

5. If your ears are pierced, how old were you when you got your ears pierced?
Umm,  13 maybe? My parents’ rule was that we could get our ears pierced after we got confirmed. (I’m Lutheran, so that’s around the age 13.) I got second holes when I was like 16ish and then my cartilage when I was 17ish. Then I took them all out. I can’t wear earrings in my earlobes because my ears are too sensitive. I’ve repierced my cartilage several times but it’s currently closed.

I don’t understand babies and little kids with pierced ears. (If you pierced your child’s ears I don’t mean to offend you. It’s just my opinion on the matter.) I agree with my parents on this one. Getting your ears pierced is a privilege and something to earn. Plus, it’s jewelry! You don’t put necklaces and rings on toddlers, why earrings?

6. If you were celebrating your 30th anniversary, where would you want to go?
Assuming I had an abundance of time and money? Probably Greece. If I didn’t have time or money? A winery with a cute nearby B&B. Or if we are still in the same financial boat as we are now (ohpleaseGodIhopenot!) then we’ll be going to my parents’ beach house for the weekend like we currently do.

7. What one blogger would you love to meet and why? And what would you want to plan to do with them?
After my experience meeting PW at the book signing (<- link), the thought doesn’t thrill me anymore. I’d just get really excited and then be a fool and it would all be over. So I’m not going to pick a famous blogger. I think I’d choose Molly. (Her name is a link but her blog may be private, not sure.)

Here’s the story. Molly went to high school with my husband. They were semi-friends I suppose. I don’t know much about their friendship except that one time Stephen said something mean to Molly so she slapped him. Molly is also really good friends with a friend of mine from Austin, Christine. When Christine got married, Molly was IN the wedding and Stephen and I were AT the wedding. We met briefly but I don’t remember it well because 1) I had a migraine and 2) I didn’t know I would need to remember this quick greeting.

Then Christine started a blog. (Not sure if it’s public so I’m not leaving the link.) I’m a certified blog stalker so I visited everyone on her blogroll… which included Molly. I started stalking Molly and her husband, John, because they are funny. One day she wrote a post asking who the heck these readers were. She could see hits but wasn’t getting many comments and was curious. (I’m also always curious… I welcome you lurkers to show your face!) So I announced myself. She responded with her own confession – she’s been stalking my blog for months.

And now we are readers, not stalkers. And we email and send Christmas cards. And I got a birth announcement when she had her son, Jack. It is on our refrigerator and Stephen often says, “I cannot believe Molly MaidenName’s baby’s picture is on our fridge. So random!”

ALL THAT to say that I want to re-meet Molly! In fact, quoted from her email yesterday in which she dreams of meeting me, Lauren, and Taryn: “I am definitely going to come to Houston one day and we are going to have a blog get-together. Jansen and Jack can be playing in the yard while we chat about the hilarious things the Trumans did and how Lauren is enjoying Green Acres. Oh the fun that will be had!”

That was a long answer.

8. On a scale from 1-10, how good at you at home decor? (Pictures welcome.)
About a 5. Maybe even a 4. I’d show you pictures but I’m too lazy. Maybe I’ll devote an entire post to my subpar decorating skills. Because that would be thrilling.

9. Do you have good fingernails?
Yes I do. They are strong and grow like weeds. People often ask me if they are real and how I keep them all the same length.

10. Pickles: Dill or sweet? Baby, spears, or chips? Plain or on a burger?
Dill. I’m pregnant… so I like them any way. My favorite way to eat a pickle is a fried pickle chip dipped in ranch dressing. That’s just Heavenly! But I also love those little baby pickles straight out of the jar.

A nice hodge podge of questions, huh? Feel free to add another question or two below. If I have more than 5, I’ll do another group set in a couple weeks. If you want to submit a full set, email me at chelsea (at) rootsandrings (dot) com.

Here’s Mr. Linky, play along!
