Who are you?
Glad you asked. This is me:

Blue Drink

This blog is about me. And my encounters and thoughts (don’t worry, they aren’t very deep). It is the way I convince myself that I don’t live a boring life. I guess it’s important that you learn about all of the other characters featured in these stories.

Here is my wonderful husband, Stephen. He is an amazing man. But he has no filter. It’s okay, those cheeks make up for it!

This is our baby, Jansen. He was born September 2, 2010 (90210… yeah) and has been blessing our socks off ever since. He’s an easy, happy baby and has made my transition to motherhood pretty painless! I know every mother thinks this, but in my case it is actually true: he is the cutest baby that has ever existed.

And here is our pup. Her name is Rookie. She’s a mutt dog, but we tell her that she’s a full bred shepherd dog. She’s pretty sensitive and it’s just easier that way. She’s as sweet as they come. But be careful, she gets a bit timid (read: outrageously out of control) around strangers and pees. So watch your feet. Oh, and the little one here is my mom’s dog, Molly. She’s all about the dramatics. She won’t pee on you. But that doesn’t make her any better than Rookie.

And here is Hurst Castle (the one time it snowed in Houston):

What’s with the name?
Roots and Rings?  You think it’s weird? Well hear me out. Let’s start with the easy part. Rings, specifically wedding rings. They are, symbolically, the most important things in our life. Besides our love for the Lord, we love each other more than anything and are 100% committed to this crazy marriage. So “Rings” represents the beauty and joy in our lives. Now the complicated part… Two days after Stephen and I bought Hurst Castle our toilet overflowed. Our hallway and a bedroom flooded with toilet water and, well, the stuff that clogged it. I’ll spare you the details of the great flood. So Stephen did what every good husband has to do sometimes, he morphed himself into a rough and tough manly man and removed the toilet to see what was going on in the pipes. This is what he and his beard found:

(Clearly this is not a photography blog, I apologize for the darkness.) This is a 12 foot root. So there we were, rejoicing in our new life as newlyweds and homeowners and this root comes and disrupts everything. It left a mess behind. And in case you need me to connect the metaphor for you, Roots are always going to come into our lives. They show up and ruin your carpet and make you cry. But you deal with it because you know that God has a plan. And then you laugh about it (and of course, blog about it!).

So there you have it. This blog is to document all of the Roots and Rings we encounter.

Great idea! I absolutely love it, and did not think I would have time to read it, but once I started I could not stop 🙂 It’s a little like a public electronic journal. Keep it up, and I love the goal setting it keeps me motivated…grad school, marriage, work, family, kids, running, reading…

    Bring it on 2009!!!

Michael and I got married on November 18th, 2007! You guys are too cute, by the way. 🙂

OH MY GOSH I never knew the reason for the “roots” part of the blog name. SICK! How would a 12 foot root even get in your pipes? This is the reason I NEVER wanted to stop renting…

Way to bring the whole title back full-circle though. I love a good ending!

Rookie is just adorable! Fenway used to (knock on wood) pee on strangers… it was so horrible and I avoided walking him until I was pretty sure no one else would be walking. “Hi, we’re new to the neighbor — oh and I’m sorry my dog just peed on your foot.” wasn’t exactly the conversation I wanted to be having with people!

I love the meaning behind your blog name! Sounds like some of the adventures we still have almost two years after buying our “castle!”

    Hi Chelsea,

Thanks for stopping by my blog. I like yours, too! I think we have some things in common (although I think I’m way OLDER than you). It looks like you have a wonderful life and wonderful people to share it with. The peace of the Lord be with you!

Thanks for stopping by my blog. I love your “about me” description! “Clearly, this is not a photography blog” made me laugh out loud. Love it!!

And I love Houston! Have family there and visit often (I’m in San Antonio 🙂 )

    I’ll certainly be reading more.

Thanks for coming to visit my blog! I love yours! 🙂 And I love the meaning of your title. I was worried to read todays post because I haven’t watched Biggest Loser yet (I will on DVR tonight), so I didn’t read your post, but I’m sure I’ll love it tomorrow! 🙂
