This batch of questions was brought to you by yours truly. If you don’t like them, don’t tell me. It’ll just hurt my feelings and I’m pretty fragile right now. But if you have a better set of questions, send them my way. chelsea (at) rootsandrings (dot) com

1. If you were given an hour to use a $200 Amazon gift card, what would you buy?
I would spend it on the dining room chairs I need so badly but have yet to buy. I have money set aside for them but just need to get serious and pick some out. I think the $200 incentive would help light a fire under my butt. Or maybe I’d just order $200 of BellaBands! That sounds Heavenly right about now!

2. Are there any fairly common foods that you’ve never had?
Polenta, gnocchi, pastrami, sushi.

3. What was your favorite way to use your imagination as a kid?
I loved to make things out of boxes – phones, computers, time machines, space ships, etc. I even knew how to make cardboard buttons. I also loved to play school. I was the teacher and I had lots of imaginary students, plus my sister.

4. What’s your favorite state? Why?
Texas. Well obviously because it’s the best. Next question please.

5. If it was our culture to have our parents choose our spouses, do you think yours would make a good choice?
I actually do. Although they don’t know a whole lot of people my age so I’m not sure who they would have come up with. But they are good judges of character and hold the same non-negotiable requirements as I do. I think if it came down to it, they’d pick well.

6. What’s your favorite herb?
Basil. Basil. A thousand times basil.

7. If you could have dinner with one celebrity, who would you choose?
I don’t really care about most celebrities. Maybe Jennifer Garner because I think we could be buds. Maybe Louie Giglio because he’s funny and very wise. Maybe Ina Garten so that some one her cooking brilliance could rub off on me. I keep thinking that there is a baseball player that I’d like to chat with, but I can’t pick. Plus, it’s more fun to think they are great from a distance. Regardless of who it is, Paula Deen would be making the meal.

8. What’s your favorite Disney movie?
Aladdin, I think. I’m not sure when Disney and Pixar merged so I’m not sure if Finding Nemo counts.

9. If you had to listen to the same song over and over for 24 hours, what song would you choose?
Probably a song that I already hate so that I don’t start hating a song that I previously loved. Or maybe Bohemian Rhapsody because it’s so long… and it’s awesome. If you disagree, we cannot be friends.

10. How do you order your steak?
Pre-pregnancy, medium. I don’t like when my steak moo’s when I cut it, but I believe that a well-done steak is illegal in the state of Texas. Because of the strong belief, I’m going to try to go the remainder of this pregnancy without steak. I had some well-done filet a few weeks ago because my uncle was kind enough to make it for me without turning me in to the authorities. Good man.

  • 2. Kaitlynn  |  March 2, 2010 at 8:59 am

Scaramouch, Scaramouch, will you do the Fandango? … We could be friends. And yes I had to look up the spelling. I heart Queen 🙂

    1. If you were given an hour to use a $200 Amazon gift card, what would you buy? Books books and more books. I definitely wouldn’t need an hour… more like 15 min. 🙂

    2. Are there any fairly common foods that you’ve never had?
hmmm…. I honestly can’t really think of any. We found out I was allergic to onions at a really young age, so I haven’t had any in a really long time (other than on accident, with really bad consequences!) Makes going out for mexican food very difficult!

    3. What was your favorite way to use your imagination as a kid? I was always drawing. Sometimes stuff out of my head, sometimes the stuff I saw around me. I also played with He-man and She-Ra with my cousin all the time.

    4. What’s your favorite state? Why? Texas, duh. Born and raised there. I’ve lived all over the place and have been in Florida for 8 years… and I still consider Texas “home.”

    5. If it was our culture to have our parents choose our spouses, do you think yours would make a good choice?
Yeah, I think they would. They know me pretty well. 🙂

    6. What’s your favorite herb? Basil. especially if it’s on pizza!

    7. If you could have dinner with one celebrity, who would you choose? Stephen King. He’s my favorite author. Plus, he loves baseball, and I think we’d have a lot to talk about.

    8. What’s your favorite Disney movie?
Mulan. Great story, and I love Eddie Murphy as Mushu.

    9. If you had to listen to the same song over and over for 24 hours, what song would you choose?
I could probably listen to anything by David Crowder Band for an entire day.

    10. How do you order your steak? Medium-rare. It shouldn’t moo, but it should bleed a little. 🙂 It was the one cardinal rule I broke when I was preggo! Well, that and I had soft-serve ice cream around 8 months, along with a little sushi (my doctor gave me the o.k.) LOL

  • 4. Aunt Bonnie  |  March 2, 2010 at 9:23 am

    3. I played outside….forts, tunnels, etc.
    4. no question here….duh….TEXAS OUR TEXAS
    5. Not sure on the parents picking my husband…..
    6. Thyme
    7. Not to awe struck by celebrities but would surely want someone who cooks…..
    8. Disney….old one…Swiss Family Robinson
    9. I don’t think I could listen to one song over and over and over. Yikes!
    10. medium rare….well done is a waste of good meat. I’d rather not have any…..

  • 5. osarah  |  March 2, 2010 at 9:33 am

    Thanks for playing along, Kaitlynn!

  • 6. Stacie  |  March 2, 2010 at 9:56 am

I’m more of a Fat Bottomed Girl myself…. (if you don’t catch the reference I will be really embarrassed)

  • 7. mom (nana)  |  March 2, 2010 at 10:51 am

    1. If you were given an hour to use a $200 Amazon gift card, what would you buy?
Oh my…don’t know of anything I would HAVE to have but maybe books, maybe put it towards a neat rocker/glider for the beach house

    2. Are there any fairly common foods that you’ve never had?
    sushi.

    3. What was your favorite way to use your imagination as a kid?
I played outside all the time – rode bikes, made forts, caught fireflys….

    4. What’s your favorite state? Why?
Texas. Well obviously because it’s the best. HAPPY TEXAS INDEPENDENCE DAY TODAY!!!! And thank you to all the men who gave their lives in the battle of the Alamo so that Texas could begin their journey to Independence!

    5. If it was our culture to have our parents choose our spouses, do you think yours would make a good choice?
I am not sure. If they knew to pick a man of integrity like my daddy, then they would be on the right track

    6. What’s your favorite herb?
Basil and cilantro – sorry Chelsea….

    7. If you could have dinner with one celebrity, who would you choose?
I don’t really care about most celebrities. Maybe Craig Biggio? Or Chad Hedrick the speed line racer from the Olympics to ask him about his faith journey – he was REALLY screwed up for awhile and has had a total about face. Would be interesting to hear about it. Or Max Lucado – I LOVE his books…..Or Rachael Ray – she is such a ball of energy and cooks easy meals!

    8. What’s your favorite Disney movie?
    Whoa….no way to pick this

    9. If you had to listen to the same song over and over for 24 hours, what song would you choose?
IF you listened to the Bohemian Rhapsody, your dad and Lindsay would be singing along ALL DAY LONG and it sure would get old! I love Chris Tomlin, Matt Redman, David Crowder, but you are right, might get tired and hate them so better not choose any.

    10. How do you order your steak?
Definitely Med Rare – don’t want it cold but MUST have some blood in there moving….Can NOT have a steak well done – EWWWWWW

  • 8. Ashley B  |  March 2, 2010 at 11:24 am

hmmm. maybe i shouldn’t have read this blog right before class. i’ve been humming bohemian rhapsody for the past ten minutes

  • 9. linda  |  March 2, 2010 at 11:25 am

i havent had a chance to do this week’s question but just wanted to comment on your answers:

    1. YAY TEXAS.

    2. TRIPLE YAY FOR BASIL.

  • 10. Stephany  |  March 2, 2010 at 11:34 am

Oh, Bohemian Rhapsody is one of my all-time favorite songs! So, yay, we can still be friends!

Sushi is one of those foods I want to try but I’m too scared to. It looks nasty but everyone seems to love it!

  • 11. TiphanyB  |  March 2, 2010 at 11:50 am

    1. If you were given an hour to use a $200 Amazon gift card, what would you buy?
A large storage ottoman- A place to “hide” Paige’s toys, and a place for my feet after an evening of chasing her around! If I had any money leftover (because you can always find great deals at Amazon!)- books and dvds off of my current wish lists.

    2. Are there any fairly common foods that you’ve never had?
Hmm… I can’t think of anything. I’ll try just about anything- even the fairly uncommon things that my Danish mother-in-law serves. It’s hit and miss with her.

    3. What was your favorite way to use your imagination as a kid?
My brother and I use to have treasure hunts. We had this awesome fort that my dad built that had a sandbox in it. And we had a cargo net to climb. We thought we were pirates!

    4. What’s your favorite state? Why?
I know I live here… I know I should say Texas, but I can’t bring myself to say it… I don’t like the heat. Georgia was nice. I was born in Virginia but haven’t been back there since I was 2. Maybe that’s where I belong?

    5. If it was our culture to have our parents choose our spouses, do you think yours would make a good choice?
No. Not at all. My Dad would pick someone too boring and my mom would pick someone too crazy. I’ll stick with my happy medium.

    6. What’s your favorite herb?
    Basil. I love bruschetta!

    7. If you could have dinner with one celebrity, who would you choose?
Johnny Depp- I love all his movies, and I want to know what goes through his mind when he’s playing a character like the Mad Hatter. And if he doesn’t feel like talking, that’s fine too. 🙂

    8. What’s your favorite Disney movie?
My favorite true “Masterpiece” was Robin Hood. I also really like Spirited Away by Hayao Miyazaki.

    9. If you had to listen to the same song over and over for 24 hours, what song would you choose?
Pretty much anything by Blue October, but if I had to pick one song it would be Calling You.

    10. How do you order your steak?
Medium… I lot my steak to be hot through and through.

  • 12. Angela  |  March 2, 2010 at 12:50 pm

I was always playing school as a kid! It was always a long, involved game, and I loved every minute of it!

  • 13. Clare  |  March 2, 2010 at 1:23 pm

haha I love your steak answer. I answered mine before I came to read yours and I apologize in advance before you read it. Please do not alert the authorities, I would like to stay in Texas!

    Happy Texas Day!

  • 14. Autumn  |  March 2, 2010 at 1:36 pm

    I think Nemo qualifies…
By the way, that tiny preggo tummy is too cute!

  • 15. Kristin  |  March 2, 2010 at 3:01 pm

Now’s not the time, but once your little munchkin is born…get yourself some sushi lady. You’re missin’ out! Now tell me that you hit up the cook off this weekend. YUM!

  • 16. Katie  |  March 2, 2010 at 3:19 pm

Nemo qualifies as Disney :). One of my favorites too!! This is my first time on your blog! Love it!

  • 17. theklines  |  March 2, 2010 at 3:47 pm

I had the privilege of meeting Mr. Giglio once, and my impression of him is similar to the impression that I have of many ministers. That is, he is very practiced in the art of public communication. But, he is extremely introverted in face-to-face interaction and is surprisingly shy. So, I’d advise you to appreciate him for what he does and pick another dinner date. 🙂

  • 18. Low Expectations  |  March 2, 2010 at 4:01 pm

I posted mine on my blog today! Love playing along!

  • 19. Molly  |  March 2, 2010 at 5:05 pm

I will make you gnocci or polenta anytime. They are definitely my “go to” weeknight dinner meals.

Also, I am glad that we are on the same page about steak doneness…I just hope you would never vomit at seeing me eat mine.

  • 20. Fuegita  |  March 2, 2010 at 10:30 pm

I used to always play school and want to be a teacher. When I got in college and started in education, I couldn’t see myself teaching. I would yell at the kids.
I love Aladdin. I love singing along with all the songs.

  • 21. Kim  |  March 5, 2010 at 9:02 am

You’ve never had gnocci? Blasphemy! You must fix that soo- it’s so, so good. Seriously. And of course, fattening but right now it doesn’t matter so eat away! 😉

In regards to visiting Texas- my inlaws just moved to S Padre Island so I’ll be there soon.

  • 22. Lyndsey  |  March 18, 2010 at 1:41 pm

Want to hear something astonishing? Other states in the union do not recognize Texas as the greatest state. I know! SHOCKING! I still think that they are jealous that we could secede and be very happy. Also, on a side note, it is in fact illegal to prepare a steak well done in the great state.

And aladin over the lion king seriously?!?!?!

    And Nolan Ryan. DUH!
